Maintaining Your Photon Mono 2: Replacing the Lead Screw Motor

3D prints with rough surfaces and unexpected artifacts, but you can't locate the problem? These problems are usually associated with wear of the screw or insufficient lubrication of the moving parts. Please try to maintain and repair your resin printer. The lead screw motor and lead screw, in cooperation, play a key role in ensuring smooth and accurate printing layers. They are critical components in resin printers that need to be maintained and replaced when necessary. This guide will discuss the importance of the lead screw and its accompanying motor, maintenance tips, and provide step-by-step instructions for replacing the lead screw motor of Anycubic Photon Mono 2.

Lead screws and Screw Motors: Role and Maintenance Tips

On a resin printer, the lead screw is a screw that moves the build platform up and down in a controlled manner during the printing process. Lead screw motors convert printing instructions into physical motion, guiding the build platform to build a 3D model step by step. The normal operation of the screw and screw motor plays a vital role in ensuring the quality of layer-by-layer printing. With long-term use, they may become worn, insufficiently lubricated, or even damaged, resulting in print quality issues or failure to complete a print.

Lubrication and cleaning are common maintenance techniques. Clean the debris and dust accumulated on the screw and ensure it is lubricated. But be careful not to over-lubricate, otherwise it will affect the print quality. Secondly, check whether moving parts, screws, etc. are loose. Long-term use can cause these fasteners to loosen. Timely tightening them or replacement of worn parts, to maintain the stability of the printing process is very important. Regular maintenance of the lead screw and inspection of the lead screw motor can ensure that Anycubic Photon Mono 2 maintains optimal operation and provides a smooth printing experience.

How to Replace Lead Screw Motor for Anycubic Photon Mono 2

When you need to replace the new screw for Photon Mono 2, please prepare the tools: M2.0 hex key, M2.5 hex key, and new screw motor. Please raise the Z-axis to the highest position to facilitate replacement of the screw motor. Before starting any maintenance, please turn off the printer power and unplug the power plug for safety.

Step 1: Use an M2.0 hex key to loosen the screws securing the rear cover and remove the cover downward. Use the M3.0 hex key to loosen and remove the screws that fix the base shell of the printer. Unplug the limit switch connected to the main board and the motor wiring plug.

Step 2: Tear off a corner of the black glue on the edge of the back cover and forcefully separate the printer base shell from the edge of the hand rest. Separate the LCD screen FPC cable on the motherboard. Use the M2.5 hex key to loosen the screws that fix the lead screw motor.

Step 3: Rotate the screw to remove the lead screw motor. Use an M2.5 hex key to unscrew the screws. Use an M2.5 hex key to unscrew the screws on the anti-backlash nut, and then separate the anti-backlash nut from the Z-axis support bracket.

Step 4: Use M2.5 hex key to unscrew the two screws on the old lead screw motor. Install the lead screw motor damping pad to the new one and fix it with screws. Replace terminal plug on new motor. Install the new lead screw motor, pay attention to the direction of it facing the motherboard.

Step 5: Use an M2.5 hex key to tighten the screws securing the screw motor. Connect the FPC cable connected to the LCD screen back to the motherboard. Install the base of the printer, and connect the motor and limit switch wiring plugs back to the main board.

Step 6: Use the M3.0 hex key to install and fix the base shell of the printer. Use an M2.0 hex key to install and fix the rear cover. Install the nut fixing piece on the screw rod, rotate it several times to fix it to the screw rod. Finger presses the spring and the nut spacer.

Step 7: The upper and lower grooves of the nut fixing piece and the nut spacer can bite together and rotate at the same time. Move the Z-axis cantilever so that the gap elimination nut assembly enters the cantilever recess. Use M2.5 hex key for fixing. Use an M2.5 hex key to tighten the screws securing the top cover. After that, please leveling your Photon Mono 2.
